Something different

I did this quick fun sketch and thought I’d share.  Apologies for the poor image quality–enjoy!

An Ichabod sketch.   I’m pretty pleased with the facial expression.

New England house

21 01 2013

When I was cruising the Internet, I came across a photo of this house in Cambridge (am not sure where) and decided to draw it.   I accidentally made it look haunted, which is not how it comes across in the photo.   Oh well.

Taz faces

Another set of sketches of facial expressions.   These are of Taz Catgut, another character from The Armen.    Somehow, I managed to draw several similar expressions, but I am fairly pleased.    Enjoy!

The Many Faces of Ammo

25 11 2012

Here is another sketch I did over the break.   I was practicing drawing different facial expressions for Ammo Sierkson, one of my characters from The Armen.   Ammo does not have really exaggerated facial expressions, so I was experimenting with trying to show emotion.   It was pretty fun!  I will have to do more of these.

Vacation Drawings, part 2

12 08 2012

Here’s part two of my vacation sketches.  Enjoy!   Sorry in advance for the length!

St. Augustine is one of the oldest cities–if not the oldest–city in the United States.  It was founded by the Spanish, but was eventually taken by the British and then was eventually incorporated into the United States (this is a really minimal history here guys).   It’s really cool, and I had a ball, trying to draw things.    I’m going to go in reverse historical order here:

These drawings are from the St. Augustine lighthouse.   I had a lot of fun with the landscape sketch!  I think the lighthouse came out fine, although the perspective was not one I usually try.

I also did a quick sketch of Flager College, originally a fancy hotel named Palace de Leon.   The place is so ridiculously ornate that I could only draw this tower without driving myself mad.

Finally, we come to one of my favorite places: the Castillo de San Marcos.    The Castillo de San Marcos was a fort built the  Spanish to protect their new colony; it was carefully engineered, and so no one ever took it by force.   According to the Pirate and Treasure museum exhibit, the Castillo’s construction started/was hurried as a result of pirate attacks.   Anyways, here are the sketches:

Vacation Drawings, part 1

12 08 2012

So, I went on vacation to St. Augustine, Florida.   It was a great trip–it’s been a long time since I went to the beach!  I decided to practice my sketching, so I drew a lot of stuff.    Here goes:

In the first two images, I drew some shells that I gathered off Crescent Beach.   I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to draw all of the shapes.

This next image includes a shell from the condo and a sketch of my sister.   I don’t usually draw live portraits, so it was kind of fun.

I have more, but I’m going to break these up into two posts.  No point in overloading this post!  Enjoy!

Duck Pond, White River Junction, VT

1 08 2012

So I spent the day in White River Junction, Vermont.   During the trip, my friends and I stopped at a duck pond, and we did some sketching.     I thought I’d share some of the resulting images.   Hope you enjoy!

The first is a mini landscape I drew.  I was trying to practice drawing perspective with multiple objects, as well as playing with shading.  I’m actually pleased with it, especially now that I’ve cropped the white space I didn’t end up using.

The second image is an experiment with drawing leaves.  I find drawing leaves really hard, and I tried to play with gradient to get the effect.  It had…some success, I think.

My final image is a neat tree that I fell in love with.  I love how all the branches seem to weave together.   It’s a little rough, but I’m quite happy with it.

Character sketch: Taz Catgut

5 07 2012

Here’s my latest character sketch: Taz Catgut from “The Armen”.   Taz is the group’s archer and sort of scout.   I don’t know why I drew him like that, and he probably doesn’t know why he’s doing it either.

Character sketch: Ammo Sierkson

26 06 2012

On my last post, a friend commented that I had done a superb job of capturing the character’s essence.   I wanted to see if I could do it for another character from the same story.   Anyways, this guy’s Ammo Sierkson.    I’m pretty happy with this one.
