Labor Day drawings

4 09 2012

In honor of the holiday, I decided to do some landscape sketches of the area near my place.   My first work was a landscape scene from a bridge in a nearby park.   I tried to render it in color, with mixed success, I think.  It kind of looks like some of my early disastrous experiments with watercolor.

My second drawing was a sketch of some neat, bendy trees nearby in the same park.   I had a lot of fun trying to capture all the angles, and I think they came out well.

Enjoy!

Duck Pond, White River Junction, VT

1 08 2012

So I spent the day in White River Junction, Vermont.   During the trip, my friends and I stopped at a duck pond, and we did some sketching.     I thought I’d share some of the resulting images.   Hope you enjoy!

The first is a mini landscape I drew.  I was trying to practice drawing perspective with multiple objects, as well as playing with shading.  I’m actually pleased with it, especially now that I’ve cropped the white space I didn’t end up using.

The second image is an experiment with drawing leaves.  I find drawing leaves really hard, and I tried to play with gradient to get the effect.  It had…some success, I think.

My final image is a neat tree that I fell in love with.  I love how all the branches seem to weave together.   It’s a little rough, but I’m quite happy with it.

Trees!

12 05 2012

So, the area where I live has a very lovely park where I frequently run.  Lately, I’ve been thinking that I should draw some of the trees and scenery that I pass.   Finally, there was a day nice enough to do so!   Here are the results:

The first is this funny little tree that my friend calls “the old crone tree”.    At first, I didn’t really like how it came out, but now I sort of like it.  I’d be curious to know what others think of it.   I don’t usually draw realistic things, and trees are tricky.

This next picture is this scene near the stream.  I am very happy with how this drawing came out.

Enjoy!
